San Jose police jobs are currently available! At this point, it appears that the initial application deadline has been moved from January 5 2014, to January 20 2014.
I'm not sure, but this could mean a number of things. Perhaps the SJPD just isn't getting enough applications to fill the vacant spots that currently exist. Or, it could mean that the applicants that have put in their paperwork just haven't cut mustard, and have already been vetted out. Or, it could be that the department is actually expecting more of their officers to be leaving or retiring.
Either way, they're hiring!
San Jose Police's numbers have slowly been decreasing over the years. In 2010, officers in the SJPD were forced to accept a wage / salary pay cut which meant a decrease by approximately 10%.
Over the course of the last few years, officers have elected to go elsewhere. San Jose has approximately 1 million residents that they are expected to serve, but the number of officers has dropped to about 910. From what I've been able to find through my research, about 8-10 officers have been leaving the department each month for the last few months.
A recent agreement between the city and officers of the San Jose Department have seen to it that the salary of the officers will be restored to the levels prior to the pay cuts. Over the course of the next two years (2014 - 2015) officers will see their pay increase by 10%.
Although they won't be ahead from the salary levels of 2009, their pay will be restored back to where it once was, and hopefully, any future contract negotiation will see the boys in blue seeing an actual raise.
Application deadlines for the October police academy intake is Jan 20. Pelletb and WSTB testing results are due by February 10, 2014. Interviews begin taking place on February 16, 2014.
