Hi there, thanks for the comment. I don't think that there is any foolproof way to make sure that you are accepted by anyone- either the public or your colleagues.

I think the best advice I can give you is just be yourself. Obviously if your personality is a complete 180 degrees from everyone else, you'll find it more difficult. But if you act a certain way just to impress other people, it'll come off looking fake and they'll know that you're acting.

Ultimately, if you are there to work, are willing to listen to other Officers who are trying to teach you, and are not a "know it all", that's a step in the right direction.

Also, be friendly, but not a "kiss ass".

As for the public, don't be a robot. Be personable, professional and yourself. But when you have a job to do, make sure you do it. Be firm, but be fair in any decisions you make.
