The background check is one of the last steps in the application process.
The Police will contact your references, speak to your family, call your neighbors. They will ask about your character, and will attempt to determine if you are a reliable person. (So make sure that you haven't been throwing loud, crazy parties on the weekends that will piss off all your neighbors lol. Cause remember, payback can be a big bitch)
They'll talk to your boss at your present workplace, and maybe contact your old ones too. (So make sure that you haven't been fooling around with your boss's daughter)
They will also conduct a credit check to see if you are financially responsible.
Also checked will be your present address and address history.
Of course, they'll also conduct a criminal records check, and do a police check of their database to see if you are on file with them for anything.
Don't panic, a simple speeding ticket or driving violation won't do you in. If you have a bunch, well, that could become an issue...
Make sure that anyone that you've added as a reference is aware that you've added them as a reference.
It won't look good if the background investigators call them to ask some questions about you and your reference says that they didn't even know you applied.
You've made it this far! If you're successful, you'll be added to a list and ranked according to competitiveness with the other candidates.
Just think positive and wait for the call. At this point, most applicants know that they are very close to a conditional invitation, and they can taste it. You'll be on pins and needles, on edge, waiting for the call...
If you get invited to training, don't go out and get crazy during the celebration!
If you get into a drunken fistfight at a bar, I guarantee you
that YOU WILL BE CUT AND YOUR INVITATION RESCINDED. There is no question. I'VE SEEN THIS SCENARIO !
