25 Female Have A High School Dipolma Only.. Am I Hirable?

I have been a security officer for four years. During that time I developed an interest for police work. I have a strong interest in becoming a cop. At this time I am applying to different police stations, becoming fit, researching , & recently got accepted into the police citizen academy course! I am looking to get back into the criminal justice program to obtain an Associates degree in criminal justice but had to place on hold due to personal reasons. Most police districts are asking that an applicant must possess a Associates degree ..but I do not have one & it takes 2 years to get one. I meet all other qualifications & want to do police work now. What can I do??

Thanks Luv the website.

If they say "must"...
by: Police-officer-pages

Hi there, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, if their requirements say "must" have an associates degree, there's no way of getting around that. UNLESS a department is in SO DIRE NEED of applicants and nobody is applying, then maybe they would consider overlooking the degree. But realistically don't bet on it. If It's a requirement, it's non negotiable.

I know you said that it takes two years, and you had to put it on hold for now, but you're only 25 years old! You're young! You have time so there's no rush. When you can complete the degree then you can apply. (Man, I wish I was 25 again lol.)

On the other hand, if you just don't want to wait, you'll have to search around the country for departments that don't have it as a requirement. But whatever they list as required, you'll need.

Keep adding to your skills and resume, get that degree and go for it!

Good luck, let us know how it goes!
